This morning Talia and I attended a "Big Chef/Little Chef" cooking class at the Young Chefs Academy in Mill Creek with my friend Carrie and her daughter Avi. The girls had a blast making Easter Egg Nests and learning about measurement.
Crushing up the chow mein noodles.
Getting ready to put their creations on the tray.
Decorating eggs while the nests set in the freezer.
Can't wait to get to the treats!
Yummo!
Easter Egg Nest Receipe:
1 c. butterscotch chips
1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 c. chow mein noodles, coarsely broken
Marshmellow chicks or jelly beans
1. Line cookie sheet with wax paper. Put chow mein noodles in a baggie and break up with your hands.
2. Place butterscotch chips, chocolate chips and shortening in microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH for 1 minute; stir.
3. If necessary, microwave at HIGH for additional 15 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating, just until chips are melted and mixture is smooth when stirred. Immediately add chow mein noodles, stir to coat.
4. Drop mixture by heaping teaspoonfuls onto prepared tray. Make nest shape with the back of a spoon. Place 3 jelly beans or a marshmellow chick in nests and let stand until firm. Store in tightly covered container. Makes 2 dozen.
